Experimental quilting

Cathedral quilts ~ a cool quilting technique I discovered recently and decided to give it a go this weekend. Here is my first run at it. A little black and white mod pillow that will fit nicely in my sewing room.

Up close you can see the little cathedral like windows that are formed by folding and refolding the fabric.

I used a couple of different online tutorials for this technique. Hyena in Petticoats has a great tute on the classic cathedral quilt. I also used a tutorial from Heather at A la mode fabric as well. I love her Gray Flora and Fauna version of the pillow. I wanted a long rectangular shape and decided to dress it up a bit with some shirred sides for a modified box pillow. I left a couple of windows without an insert just for fun.
The fabrics I used were black Kona cotton and Sofia from Alexander Henry. I like the modern look of my new pillow!

Happy Sewing
