Forest QAL Block 3 ~ Aspen Grove

Welcome to Block 3 of the Forest Quilt-along organized by Juliana (Sewing under rainbow) and Joanna (Shapemoth).

This week's block is all about trees!  The beautiful aspen trees that grow in the forests of the western USA.  This block is rated as beginner to intermediate. It may look complicated, but these are pretty much just strips to sew together and no difficult sections to match up.  As with the rest of the blocks in this QAL, this is a 12" block.  Please be sure to print at 100% or no-scaling.  Fabric requirements include about 1 fat quarter for the white or tree fabric mainly because you need long enough pieces for some of the tree sections.  The rest of the pieces can be done with scraps.

You can download the pattern and instructions here.

Here's my autumn version of the block

but it works well as a summery block as well.

I hope you enjoy this block.  If you have any questions, please head over to the Forest QAL flickr group  to post your question and see all the other fabulous blocks that people are sewing.

Click the logo below if you would like to see the full schedule of designers and blocks in this QAL.

Don't forget about the linky party and contest with a fabulous guest judge Eleanor Grosch.  Join the Forest QAL flickr group to show us your blocks and see what everyone else is sewing.  There have been so many fabulous submissions and lots of support and chat on the group.

Happy Sewing!

  9. Funny story. My husband just told me he wanted a "vintage-y, pre-washed looking quilt." I told him he was describing "low volume" and started showing him my QAL blocks. First, the woodpecker ("That a woodpecker?"). The feathers (no response). Then this: "Now THAT is a cool pattern. A forest, right? That's awesome. That's what I want."

Just thought I'd share that this has officially been plaid-clad approved ;)
