Done and done!!

Doctor who along quilt is complete!

Doctor Who is finished! The quilt that is.  And I'm so relieved to finally be done with this one. It's really been a labor of love. Emphasis on labor.

Here is the happy recipient!

Untitled

It was quilted by none other than Christina Lane (sometimescrafter) and she did a fantastic job! Check out the custom Gallifreyan quilt pattern she designed! What a perfect finishing touch for this quilt.

More closeups of the quilting! I'm smitten can you tell?
Doctor who along quilt is complete!

And of course the back had to have a little extra finishing touch so I added the words and the Doctor
Who logo.
Doctor who along quilt is complete! The back. Fantastic quilting by Christina Lane

The kids had a hard time holding this one up because it was so big - even up there on the wall. I resorted to pinning it to the house gutters in the end and it still hit the patio on the bottom.

Doctor who along quilt is complete!

I promise those Whovian letter patterns will be up on the Craftsy site eventually.  I have to take a little break from paper piecing to focus on some other priorities and then I'll be back.

How is your Whovian quilt coming along?  If you haven't started yet or are just now hearing about this project, you can find all the quilt block patterns for this quilt on this blog or through my pattern store on the Craftsy website.  In addition, you can find a ton of inspiration pictures of other DoctorWhoAlong participants and their quilts on the Flickr QAL site.

Doctor Who Along Block 19 Power of Three

Hello Whovians!

Today we have on tap the 19th block of the Doctor Who Along.  Those bewildering little black boxes were completely benign ~  until they weren’t.  That’s the Power of Three! They also make nice paperweights.

This block is one of the easiest in the QAL.  So you get a little break before our last block.

You can download the pattern here or on Craftsy.

The background fabric is once again Constellations from Lizzie House along with some solid shades of gray, black and royal blue.  Perfect for this little black box.

PLEASE NOTE – these patterns have been removed are no longer available

Welcome Whovians! Are you ready for block 18 of the Doctor Who Along?

I can't believe we're at block 18 already. It's going by fast.

Here is the Chameleon Arch, designed by Soma Acharya.

Chamelon Arch

You can find the pattern on her website here:
I was lucky enough to have some leftover Doctor Who fabric from Spoonflower that worked well for the watch.

Don't forget to share your finished blocks on the Flickr group site.

Doctor Who Along Block 17 A crack in time

Ah the space-time continuum.  Always something interesting going on there.  Where would we be without it? I'll leave this question to you to ponder.

While you are pondering, you can sew up the 17th block of the Doctor Who Along ~ A crack in time.
Download the pattern instructions here.

One note: There are a couple of errors on the numbering scheme in the pattern pieces. I'll get this fixed in a few days, but for now, follow the numbering on the piecing guide and you won't go astray.
Crack in the wall

Careful you don't get sucked in and end up in another dimension!

One note, you might actually need a bit more than a fat quarter of background fabric for this block.  Just a head's up so you don't run out.

Doctor Who Along Block 16 Vashta Nerada

PLEASE NOTE – these patterns have been removed are no longer available
Ah yes! The library episode where we first get to meet River Song.  That was a creepy episode(s) ~ for me anyway.

Here is Doctor Who Along block 16 ~Vashta Nerada

Soma has designed her version to let you chose just how creepy (skully) you want to make it.
Download your pattern

Don't forget to post your finished block pics in the Flickr pool.

This is the last Doctor Who Block of the year. We will resume our Whovian sewing adventure in January.  In the meantime, I wish you all a happy holiday season and a happy new year!

Hello Sweetie!

What Doctor Who quilt would be complete without a little of River Song's influence?

You can find the pattern here.

Doctor Who Along block 13 – Ood

Ah the gentle Ood ~ they have earned their place on this quilt don’t you think?

Here is block 13 in the  Doctor Who along

My Ood has red eyes as he's a bit possessed, but you might prefer a kinder, gentler, version...
Ood

Download the pattern here or get it on Craftsy.
Pattern is rated as intermediate in difficulty.

Additionally, Soma and I have decided to upload all the patterns on each others Craftsy pages, so you can find them all in one place more conveniently (well 2 places actuall). You can find my Craftsy homepage here.  I will be uploading all the patterns to my page in the next few days.

There are lots of great mashups on the flickr page of the blocks people have made so far. Go  check it out! There are going to be a lot of awesome quilts out there!

Doctor Who Along block 11 Striped Scarf

In this weeks installment of the Doctor Who Along, we have "4th Doctor" Tom Baker's striped scarf. Remember that scarf? To say it was long would be an understatement. It always seemed to come to the rescue when needed and somehow magically never managed to get caught on anything - or did it? It's been awhile. Tom Baker was the Doctor that started me on the series in the beginning. I was still a kid back then - hard to believe I know. The special effects in those days were laughable at best, but somehow the show had a charm that made you look beyond all the cheese.

So I present to you, the 11th foundation block for the Doctor.Who.Along - the striped scarf. Make it in whatever colors you choose. I chose to stick close to the original colors. Another Constellations fabric print for the background. Perfect I tell you! Thank-you Miss Lizzie House!

Link to Pattern and Instructions here and on Craftsy.

I hope you enjoy sewing it, it's one of the easier blocks in the QAL. The 11th block means we are more than halfway through this QAL!

Doctor Who Along Block 10 ~ Dalek

PLEASE NOTE – these patterns have been removed are no longer available

You love to hate 'em - the Daleks! Arch Nemesis of the Doctor.  From their glorified trash can/toilet plunger beginnings, to the high tech laser beamed killers of today, you can always count on them to show up at just the wrong moment.  Luckily the good Doctor always manages to outwit them.

You can have your very own Dalek up close and personal, minus the laser beams and scary looking spinny things.

This block was designed by Soma and it's fun to piece.  The Doctor Who block you've been waiting for.

You can download the pattern and instructions here.

Don't forget to post your finished block pics in the Flickr pool.

Delete or Upgrade? Are you compatible? Doctor who Along block 9

It's time for the Doctor Who Along block 9.

Can you guess what it is?

It's the Cybermen.  Always showing up en masse and ready to delete anyone who runs.

You can have your very own Cyberman to adorn your quilt.

The block pattern can be found here or through the Craftsy website.

Here is the finished block.  Once again Miss Lizzy House's Constellations fabric are just a perfect background.

As always please share your finished creations on the Flickr Doctor.Who.Along pool or view for lots of inspiration and sewing help.

Cyberman is an intermediate block and a lot easier than last weeks, so you can take a breather.

Happy Sewing!

Doctor Who Along Block 8 ~ Weeping Angel

PLEASE NOTE – these patterns have been removed are no longer available
Are you ready for block 8 of the Doctor.Who.Along? It's a Weeping Angel. Whether you love 'em or hate 'em, either way they're scary. This one is at least weeping so we don't have to see the scary angel face staring at us from our quilt! Ha!

Soma designed this block and it comes in 2 formats depending upon your skill level. We realize that some of the blocks in the Doctor.Who.Along are very challenging. This one ranks among the toughest in the QAL for sure - if the angel has you scared in more than one department, try the easier block. If you are up for a challenge, go for the harder one. Either way, you'll end up with a cool new block for your quilt or project

Pattern and instructions available HERE.   Don't forget to share your finished blocks in the Flickr pool.  Doctor.Who.Along

Iconic Sonic Screwdriver Doctor.Who.Along block 7

Welcome Whovians!  With the extra days in July, we've had a bit of a longer break from the last block.  Hopefully you had a bit of a chance to get caught up and are not in withdrawal!  Are you ready for block 7?

It's pretty iconic I think ~ The Sonic Screwdriver - of course no Doctor would be caught without it!

Pattern pieces and instructions download here

As always, all the Doctor.Who.Along patterns are available through the Craftsy website as well.

Did everyone see there will be a new Doctor? I'm not sure what to think of this just yet.  It's so hard to let go of a Doctor.  Don't you think?

Doctor.Who.Along block 6 ~ Werewolf

PLEASE NOTE – these patterns have been removed are no longer available

It's time for block number 6 of the Doctor Who Along quilt along.

This weeks block is brought to you by Soma, my paper-piecing partner in crime.

I hope you like the block. It was a fun one to put together and actually went together much more quickly than some of the other blocks in this QAL which I know you will be relieved to hear.  I will rate this one as intermediate.

Here is my version of the block:

Pattern and instructions can by found on Soma's blog.
My background is more of Lizzy House' Constellations fabric which is truly tailor-made for this QAL.  Thanks Lizzy!! Also included are kona solids and tonal mosaic from Michael Miller.

Happy Sewing!

Who is Badwolf?

Ah yes the endless Badwolf references. We spent a whole season (or more) wondering who Badwolf was? Remember those? Pretty iconic Doctor Who I think.  That's this weeks theme for Block 5 of the Doctor.Who.Along.

Badwolf Doctor.Who.Along Block 5
Yes I know it looks complicated and to be honest, it is one of the toughest blocks in the QAL but if you go slow and do small sections at a time, I know you will get there! This block took me approximately 2 evenings to piece - that's about 6 hours.  So keep that in mind. Take your time and roll with it!

The pattern can be found here and on Craftsy.

I chose a brick print background for my block but since it's directional, it adds another layer of complexity to the piecing, if you are a beginner, stick with a non-directional or even a solid print for your background. Follow my piecing guidelines here for those tricky diagonal seams and all will be well.  A glass of wine might help also :)  After all, it's supposed to be fun, right?!

Don't forget to add your finished block photo to the Flickr Doctor.Who.Along photo pool.

Happy Sewing!  Geronimo!!!

Doctor.Who.Along Block 4 ~ SS Madame de Pompadour

PLEASE NOTE – these patterns have been removed are no longer available

This week it's Soma's turn for block 4 in our installment of the Doctor.Who.Along QAL on Flickr.

SS Madame de Pompadour
SS Madame de pompadour

Pattern and instructions can be found on Soma's Blog or on Craftsy.
This block has a lot of little pieces but no difficult angles so it's a slow and steady wins the race kind of block.  I recommend some uninterrupted time, good music, and possibly also a favorite beverage.

I used various Kona gray's for the ship and Lizzy House's Constellations fabric as the background which just happens to work perfectly.  So you might want to snag some up while it's still available.

Don't forget to add your finished block to the Flickr pool - there are so many amazing blocks in there already - it's so fun to see all of your hard work!

I am currently on summer vacation in Canada, but I'll be back next week.  In the meantime, happy sewing!

Doctor.Who.Along Block 3 ~ K9

A Time lord's best friend ~ K9.

I've always been fond of K9 - all the way back to the Tom Baker days.   Maybe it's because I'm a dog lover.   So here he (or she?) is in block form.

I've added some"K9" stitching on the side to jazz him up but that is totally optional. He looks good without too!  See?

This block is probably the easiest block to piece so far. So you can breathe a sigh of relief!

The pattern can be downloaded here or through Craftsy.  In case I didn't mention it earlier, 'cuz I often forget stuff like that, Soma and I are posting all these patterns on Craftsy, so they'll be in one easy to find place.  But if you don't like to have to login to get stuff, then you can always find these patterns on our blogs for as long as they are around.

And as an added bonus, I have made an embroidery file for those with embroidery machines, that has the K9 embroidery.  If you would like a copy, please download it here.  Format is .exp but can be converted to other formats in your embroidery software depending upon your machines format.
